Community embraces Scouts’ recycling campaign

By Tracy Forsyth ( June 1 2019)

The 2nd Highland Creek Scouts e-waste fundraiser on April 27 was a huge success! We collected two large dumpsters of e-waste, two large dumpsters of scrap metal and more than 13,000 lbs of clothing and other goods for Kidney Clothes. We had 106 volunteers helping on the day of the event and completed more than 160 home pickups of large items prior to event day. The 2nd Highland Creek Scouting group wants to thank the community for their continued support for our fundraising activities.

The scouting sections also recently participated in walks along the waterfront trail, camp fires in Morningside Park, a hike in Colonel Danforth Park and shoreline cleanups.

In May,  the Cubs, White-tail Beavers (beavers aging up to cubs), Scouts, Venturers and Rovers (44 youth) along with volunteer Scouters enjoyed a carnival-themed camp complete with cotton candy, popcorn, homemade deep fried pickles, homemade corn dogs, chili, pretzel sticks,  funnel cake, and caramel apples. They enjoyed many fun games such as toilet paper toss, strong man challenge, and other traditional carnival games. Pictures of our activities can be found on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/beaverscubsscoutsventurersrovers.
